In this short app note Pease shows how you can avoid the disadvantages of using trim pots, by snipping out resistors instead. The example he uses are adjustable voltage regulators, but his method can generally be used as an alternative to trim pots. Of course it is even better if you can design your circuit in such a way that you do no need any adjustments at all.
